The Parkdale People's Economy is a network of community members, agencies, and allies aiming to build decent work, shared wealth, and equitable development in the rapidly gentrifying neighbourhood of Parkdale in Toronto, Canada. Our network is guided by the belief that if we can build greater community control over land, labour, and finances, then we can begin to envision a more equitable future in our neighbourhood. This workshop will be facilitated in partnership with the Parkdale Neighbourhood Land Trust to provide a deep dive into our land trust and community planning toolkits to share our resources with other neighbourhoods facing similar displacement pressures. Participants will learn about our tools, resources, and strategies for building participatory democracy in Parkdale, and collectively inform our practice through their insights, assets, and experiences.
