This session will discuss Symbiosis' work to create a confederation of radical, directly democratic local assemblies and projects in North America. We will provide a brief and accessible overview of this project's theoretical underpinnings, proposing a transition from hierarchy to direct democracy at scale through the creation of dual-power institutions. The discussion will center real-world examples and applications to sites of lived struggle in our communities, from community land trusts to cooperatively-owned renewable energy infrastructure. Through facilitated conversation with attendees, we will crystallize the next steps to building a confederated network and a free and ecological society from the ground up in the here and now.
