Bring Your Own Laptop to Participate in this Interactive Session!

This session is broken into two interactive workshops. The first session asks, what is data and how can grassroots organizers use it to run successful campaigns? In this session participants will learn about: 1) which data is important to collect and why, 2) tools that can be used for data storage and analysis, 3) how to leverage data for targeted campaigning, 4) how to use your data to create a more equitable campaign and 5) how to maintain good data integrity. This workshop session is structured as a presentation with a hands-on component where participants will design and analyze a data collection strategy for a sample scenario.

In the second portion, BetaNYC introduces you to tools and highly interactive trainings specifically intended to help hyper-local civic organizations access, analyze, map and use data to inform decision-making. This workshop will introduce you to BoardStat < https://beta.nyc/boardstat >, an easy-to-use tool to query 311-requests and explore trends in health, safety and quality of life concerns. Additional municipal data tools will be introduced. Join us as we crack open data and empower you to map and understand your community’s concerns.
