As intertwined outcomes of existing urban governance regimes, displacement and gentrification are two of the greatest challenges facing cities globally today.  Yet the experience of communities demonstrates that it is not enough to fight back against displacement and gentrification; communities must develop strategies to proactively build and own the city they want to see.  The critical question for municipalists is: how can we pursue equitable development projects without causing further displacement and gentrification?  To this end, the Bronx Cooperative Development Initiative has been convening a Bronx-wide Development without Displacement Roundtable of eight community based organizations and co-developing various tools with them. This open lab is an opportunity for muncipalists facing displacement around the world to share stories, exchange skills, and collaborate on possibilities for development without displacement.
