Gameplay is understood as a playful and pedagogical activity whose purpose is to foster citizen participation and create awareness among neighbors on urban, environmental and social regeneration. Incorporating a playful dimension in urban discussions allows stakeholders with different interests -such as public workers, business owners, activists or neighbors- to sit on the same table to discuss better solutions for their environment.

This is a workshop session that emphasizes the importance of the use of methodologies such as gaming (role-playing) in order to connect the imagination of citizens to the seemingly impossible task of describing their desires and practices (during participatory research and design), and to tease out “to dos and to don’ts” and generate tangible propositions.

The workshop will be structured through our experiences and reflections of our most recent project at Southwark School in south Philadelphia and the Northern Manhattan Climate Action Plan.
